For almost half a year, the nation’s top junior basketball player in the country, Vermont Carey Jr., has been a “Plan A” recruit for Michigan State. He has already taken an unofficial visit to #4 Michigan State and will be taking his first official visit to East Lansing this weekend from the 9th through the 11th. He will be in attendance of the heated fourth-ranked Spartans vs. third-ranked Boilermakers matchup on Sunday and will have an opportunity to learn much more about the university than he did on his two-day unofficial visit in the fall. Spartan Nation caught up with the five-star power forward to preview his upcoming trip to Michigan State.

The 6’10”, 245 pound physical power forward is looking forward to his upcoming trip to Michigan State. “I’ve never been this excited to take a visit,” he opened with, “This will be my first official visit and Im excited to see what’s in store for this weekend.” Aside from the big game on Saturday, Carey is also excited to see more aspects of Michigan State. “The game on Saturday will be a lot of fun and I’m also interested in learning more about the University. I want to take a look at the academic programs and the other opportunities the school has to offer,” he said.

A recruit is only able to take five official visits during his recruitment. There are a whole plethora of teams chasing after Carey Jr., but Michigan State was the first official visit he booked. Speaking on what led to the decision to officially visit Michigan State first, Carey Jr. stated, “I’ve always loved Michigan State and Coach Izzo is a legendary coach that I could see myself playing for. It was only fitting that they were the first school I took an official visit to,” he added.

Besides his upcoming visit to Michigan State, Carey Jr. does not have any other visits plans but will look to visit Duke, Miami, and other schools if his schedule permits.

Vernon Carey Jr. is ranked the top recruit in the class of 2019. As always, stay tuned to Spartan Nation for all recruiting updates, football or basketball.
