Michigan State basketball freshman Coen Carr shows off insane vertical leap

The highlight reel in East Lansing this winter will be something to behold...

Excitement and hype for Michigan State's 2023-24 men's basketball season has continually built for months, ever since the Spartans landed a Top 5 recruiting class for the '23 cycle.

While power forward Xavier Booker is the highest-ranked incoming freshman as the No. 11 player in the class, no first-year player has generated more noise and positive vibes than small forward Coen Carr.

With his "jump out of the gym" athleticism, Carr is becoming a fan favorite for the Spartans before he even steps foot in the Breslin Center on a game night. Michigan State men's basketball's official Twitter account added more fuel to hype surrounding Carr with a video tweet highlighting the freshman's insane leaping ability.

Carr reaches nearly the top of the backboard with this leap — that's 13 feet for those who are wondering. The freshman's armpit is at the rim, and his head eclipses that 10-foot height.

This is just the latest showcase of Carr's athleticism that we've seen. This summer, during the Moneyball Pro-Am tournament at Holt High School, the freshman has put on a show, dazzling on-lookers with dunk-contest worthy slams during live exhibitions.

What does this mean for Michigan State? It means the Spartans have another fastbreak running mate for rising junior Jaden Akins, who threw down his share of crowd-frenzying, highlight-reel slams last season at the Breslin Center.

Akins one-upped himself in the rival's house last season, posterizing Michigan forward Jace Howard at the Crisler Center...

For good measure, Akins gave a national audience a taste of his fastbreak antics in the NCAA Tournament, soaring for a rim-rattling slam against USC in a second round matchup...

Michigan State point guard A.J. Hoggard is going to love having Akins and Carr as running mates on the fast break this season, and it'll produce even more eye-popping results that we saw from Akins a season ago.

In the mid-2010s, the Los Angeles Clippers became known as "Lob City" with Chris Paul assisting Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan on mesmerizing alley-oop slams. We could see the college version of "Lob City" this winter in East Lansing, with Hoggard assisting Akins and Carr on the break.

A fun season is in store for the Spartans.
