19 MI DE/OL Adam Berghorst Talks Recent UV To Michigan State
After receiving an offer from #5 Michigan State in mid-December, Zeeland (MI) East2019 defensive end Adam Berghorst has taken two unofficial visits to East Lansing, and most recently, Berghorst was on campus on Saturday and was on hand for Michigan State’s win over Purdue on the hardwood.
Berghorst spoke with Spartan Nation following his visit and said that he enjoyed his time in East Lansing over the weekend for a number of reasons, most notably because he had the opportunity to speak with Michigan State’s new defensive ends coach Chuck Bullough at length.
“I loved it,” he said. “First off, the coaches all invited my mom to come and that was really nice and that was really good for her to see everything. It was awesome to see the coaches again, develop more relationships, I met the defensive ends coach and I spent 45 minutes in his room learning about all of the techniques and stuff. I had front row seats for the game and I couldn’t have asked for a better one.”

Bullough was officially named as Michigan State’s defensive ends coach at the beginning of February and Berghorst noted that he has kept in touch with him since he joined the Spartans’ coaching staff and has exchanged texts with him somewhat regularly.
In his time getting to know Bullough, Berghorst said that he had the opportunity to talk about playing styles and techniques, as well as what Bullough believes what it takes to be a “game-changer”.
“I went in his room with my family because I really hadn’t met him before,” he said. “We learned about his techniques and what it means to sack the ball, instead of the quarterback and how to be a game-changers instead of just making plays. It was great stuff.”
One of the things that stood out most to Berghorst in his time getting to know Bullough is his attention to detail and the fact that he is an exciting person to be around as well.
“He really just pays attention to detail,” he said. “He told me how he’s going to make it fun, but really makes everything about paying attention to detail, which is huge. He really focuses on footwork and what it takes to make every single play and to be a game-changer as a D-end and D-tackle.”
Another part of the visit that stood out to Berghorst was the atmosphere surrounding Michigan State’s basketball game against Purdue on Saturday and admitted that he can envision playing in front of the Spartan fan base in the future.
“Overall, it was really exciting,” he said. “The support that they have from their fans, especially the students, it’s really special. It would be a crazy environment to play in and one of the coaches mentioned to me that it’s three or four times more for football, so that really gets me excited. Seeing the campus again in the winter really gets me excited for Michigan State.”

Along with his offer from Michigan State, Berghorst holds offers from Kentucky, Indiana, Iowa State, Minnesota, and Michigan, who offered the 6-foot-7, 245-pound defensive end back at the end of January.
Berghorst, who told Spartan Nation that he grew up a Michigan State fan when he received his offer back in December, said that now that he has taken a handful of visits, he ‘definitely could’ see himself choosing the Spartans at the end of his recruitment. Berghorst also added that he anticipates that he will make a decision before the start of his senior season and possibly before he finishes his junior year in high school.
