19 OH DT Isaiah Gibson MSU Offer from His "Dream School"
Springfield (OH)2019 defensive tackle Isaiah Gibson saw his recruitment take off over the course of the last couple of months, but was still waiting for an offer from #5 Michigan State, which he previously called a “dream school”.
But that all changed last week when Gibson received the offer he had been patiently waited for and Spartan Nation caught up with the 3-star recruit to discuss his new offer from the Spartans.
“Like I said before, it was a dream school,” he said. “So when I got it, I couldn’t do anything but smile.”
Gibson currently holds 22 offers, including offers from Kentucky, Minnesota, Purdue, Wisconsin, Iowa State, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Cincinnati, Louisville, Maryland, Rutgers and Syracuse.
As far as what it was about Michigan State for Gibson to consider it to be a dream school, the 6-foot-4, 298-pound standout said that the Spartans caught his attention when they won their last Big Ten title a few years ago.
“Coach Dantonio had them rolling,” he said. “They had just come off of a Big Ten Championship, they were hot and I hopped on board. Now I’m getting recruited by them and it’s awesome. I’m just excited.”
Gibson learned of his offer from Michigan State defensive tackles coach Ron Burton and said that the two have developed a good relationship throughout his recruitment and added that Burton has offered knowledge and insight into the field he wants to major in, broadcast journalism.
“Coach B is an amazing person,” he said. “He knows about my major really well too because that’s what his daughter majored in and that’s the field she’s in, broadcast journalism. Me and coach Burton, we can talk for days, he’s a great dude.”
While he has caught the attention of many by what he’s been able to do on the football field, Gibson is just as proud of what he’s accomplished in the classroom and credits his mom, Amy for showing him the importance of school.
“She’s the greatest thing that ever happened to me,” he said. “She’s my best friend. My rock. I can’t even explain it.”
Gibson told Spartan Nation that he will announce his college decision on September 19th, which is the birthday of his childhood best friend, who passed away due to a brain aneurysm in 2012 at the age of 11.
