3 Recruits to Watch Out for in the Class of 2019

Coming off a 10-win season in 2017, the Spartans are once again fielding an exceptionally strong side this season under the watchful eye of coach Mark Dantonio. Recruitment for 2019 is also looking exceedingly promising with the Spartans currently having 15 verbal commitments in the class which, by the look of things, will be an exceptionally good one. Despite the team losing out on 4-star defensive tackle target Denver Warren who claimed that his visit to Michigan State wasn’t in the least bit exciting, they did garner the commitments of a number of top-class recruits, 2 of which hail from nearby Belleville High School. Among the many remarkable recruits that have committed to the Spartans, three, in particular, should be watched closely when they join the team: Devontae Dobbs, Julian Barnett, and Jase Bowen.

Devontea Dobbs

Dobbs, who comes from Belleville (which has become a prominent feeding school for MSU) is undoubtedly one of the most prolific recruits the Spartans have landed for the 2019 season. Being ranked the No 2 player in Michigan behind Grand Rapids East Kentwood tackle, Logan Brown (who committed to Wisconsin), Dobbs could pick and choose from just about any schoolin the country. He is also the highest-ranked recruit Michigan State has landed since Charles Rogers back in 2000. Dobbs, who is listed at 6'4" and weighing in at 270 pounds will more than likely have to add some mass to his frame if he wants to stand his ground against the top defensive linemen and linebackers in college football. Luckily for him, this is a job that Mark Dantonio will happily take on.

Julian Barnett

The Spartans seemingly hit the jackpot when they landed a commitment from Julian Barnett, one of the most favored players from the 2019 recruiting class. Barnett is teammates with fellow Belleville recruit, Devontae Dobbs and is eager to start his football career at Michigan State. While Mark Dantonio and his team were keeping their fingers crossed that Barnett would commit, his decision did come as somewhat of a surprise after an offer from Ohio State. Currently ranked at #60 in the country, 6ft1and 190 pound Barnett effortlessly plays both sides of the ball although he stands out more in the defensive backfield.

Jase Bowen

Jase Bowen is a man of many talents and has been recruited to play both football and baseball for the Spartans in 2019. Bowen was seemingly set for a future at Notre Dame after he committed to playing baseball for the Indiana-based outfit but could not resist the two-sport offer made by MSU. Being offered a full-ride scholarship is a big deal as students accrue substantial debts they have to pay. If you are able to attend one of the top universities in the country for free while competing in the sports you love, you really are blessed. At 6ft1 and 178 pounds Bowen might not have the biggest frame but what he lacks in size he makes up for in speed. Due to his speed, Jase could become a prized slot receiver for the Spartans as well as a solid punt returner. It will be interesting to see on which field he excels the most but either way, the youngster from Toledo, Ohio, is bound to be a great addition to the Michigan State University family.

There is no way to predict exactly how the coming seasons will play out but taking coach Dantonio's track record into consideration, coupled with a very impressive list of recruits, the future looks extremely bright for the Spartans. The team is set to yet again boast equal parts force and speed, a deadly combination that will see them make short work of many of their opponents on the field.
