As Flint (MI) Carman-Ainsworth2019 defensive end Michael Fletcher will take a number of planned visits over the next two months, he made his first stop on Monday at #5 Michigan Stateand Spartan Nation caught up with the 4-star recruit immediately following his visit last night.

Fletcher, who is regarded as Michigan State’s top target in the 2019 class, was joined by his grandmother on his visit, said that it was important to him that she joined him and added that he felt she enjoyed her time in East Lansing.

“Definitely, she got all of her questions answered,” he said. “I thought we had a great time talking to everybody, seeing everything so I feel like it went well.”

For Fletcher, personally, he said that he also enjoyed his visit to Michigan State and added that he had the opportunity to talk with most of the Michigan State coaching staff during his time on campus.

“I got to talk to almost every (coach),” he said. “It’s just always great talking with them and catching up with them. There are great people over there, so I love talking to them.”

Fletcher currently holds 17 offers so far in his recruiting process, including offers from Michigan State, Alabama, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Georgia, Minnesota, Purdue, Iowa, Iowa State, Indiana and Nebraska.

When he first received his offer from Michigan State in September of 2017, Fletcher called it his “dream offer” and told Spartan Nation on Monday night that he is still “as excited as I’ve always been” about Michigan State and added that it is a school that he’s still looking at.

Considering the fact that Fletcher is right at the top of Michigan State’s board as the Spartans look to add to an already strong 2019 class, the 6-foot-6, 240-pound defensive end admitted that it’s nice to know that the Spartans have made him a top priority.

“It always feels great to let it be known that they want you,” he said. “So I definitely appreciate that.”

Fletcher told Spartan Nation that he plans to make his college decision before the start of his senior season.

One coach who Fletcher spent time with on Monday and has spent time with on previous visits is new defensive end coach Chuck Bullough, who Fletcher said he’s enjoyed getting to know as a football coach and as a person.

“It’s definitely great, I was talking to him because I want to learn more and more about him and how he coaches and him as a person,” he said. “So it’s definitely great every time I get the chance to talk to him.”

While he is one of the best defensive ends in the country and has received plenty of attention for his accomplishments on the football field, Fletcher said that he feels that, just as importantly, the Michigan State coach staff likes the fact that he is a high-character individual and appreciates the fact that the Spartans see him as more than just a football player.

“I think they like me as a person and who I am,” he said. “It’s always great to know that they don’t just like you to play a sport, but they like you as a person too.”
