The Spartan Nation Welcomes the #1 P Prospect in the Country for the 2010 Class!

EXCLUSIVE BREAKING NEWS FROM SPARTAN NATION.COM Dantonio Adds Commitment #12 For the 2010 Class:Â P Mike Sadler of Forest Hills Northern High School and Resident of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Mark Dantonio and the Spartan Nation added recruit number twelve for the 2010 class this morning, and it is one of the nation’s best at his position. Mike Sadler if not the best punter in the nation is certainly not second to anyone.

Here is a link to an interview I did with Sadler a little over a week ago:Â LINK!

The best pure punting prospect in the nation chose MSU this morning over offers from LSU, Alabama, Florida and many other perennial powers. Sadler is not only the most heralded punter in the nation, he is also a tremendous all around athlete.

He is an excellent directional punter and had pinpoint placement on the ball. Not only is he exceptionally accurate, but he also has tremendous hang time that is due to being blessed with incredible flexibility and strength. The ability to get hang time, and to also place the ball almost at will, allows the punt coverage team (Considered by Dantonio the single most important unit on his team) to get down field in coverage to down a ball or make the opponent call for the fair catch. (Here is video of special teams coordinator Mike Tressel. In it he discusses the punt being the #1 play in all of footall. LINK)

Sadler does the punting game as well as any high schooler that I have ever seen and is better than MANY college players right now. With his being gifted with natural talent, he also adds another element of power by getting downfield and looking to make the big hit. Sadler is expected to sit for one season, as a red-shirt behind the Big Ten’s best punter in Aaron Bates, but like Bates should get four years as a starter. In fact Sadler has a lot of respect for Bates, "Sitting and learning behind the Big Ten's best punter in Aaron Bates is a great opportunity to learn."

Sadler is not only a great athlete, but is highly intelligent. This 4.0 student is ready to get an engineering degree and will pursue that when he steps on campus. Sadler was drawn to MSU for many reasons. He was impressed with the Spartan coaches commitment to academics first. In fact he mentioned to me, “I was pleasantly pleased with how the MSU coaching staff approaches school. Sure I want to play football after college, but I am not going to pass up the chance to get that degree and get it in my chosen field of engineering.”

We will have video up later today as we discuss with Sadler his decision to join the green and white so make sure to look for that. Spartan Nation rated Sadler the #4 top prospect in the State of Michigan for the 2010 class and this commitment gives the Spartans five of the top ten players. Two from that list still remain uncommitted and the Spartans still under consideration for both, DB Dior Mathis of Cass Tech and C.J. Olaniyan of Warren Mott.

The Sadler commitment is a reflection of Mark Dantonio’s strategy of taking care of Michigan and the surrounding states as priority. Sadler is the 8th Michiganian along with three young men from Ohio and one from Indiana.

Here is a list of the eleven other young men that Mike Sadler is joining for the 2010 class.
