Josiah Scott Named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. – After recording a career-best two interceptions in the win over Rutgers last Saturday, Michigan State sophomore cornerback Josiah Scott has been named the Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

Scott and the Spartan defense helped limit Rutgers to just 217 yards of total offense (109 passing, 108 rushing) while forcing three turnovers.

Scott's first interception arrived in the third quarter and he returned it 12 yards. His second pick came on a fourth-and-6 play from the MSU 21 with 1:32 left in the game, as he caught the ball at the 3-yard line to ice the win. He also had three tackles in the game.

The 5-10, 175-pound Scott had his meniscus repaired during preseason camp and didn't return to action until the ninth game of the season at Maryland on Nov. 3. In just four games, Scott has made his presence felt on defense with 10 tackles, three pass break-ups and two interceptions. A 2017 Freshman All-American, Scott has 40 tackles, four interceptions and 13 pass break-ups in just 16 career games, all starting assignments.

Scott is the third Spartan to earn Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors this season (Khari Willis vs. Penn State; Joe Bachie vs. Maryland).
