Updated Betting Odds For Michigan State Football's Next Head Coach
Michigan State University's search for its next head football coach is entering its final stages, with a new hire expected to be announced within the next five to 10 days.
As the list of candidates for the Spartans continues to shorten, BetMichigan.com has released updated betting odds for MSU's next coach. According to the oddsmakers over at BetMichigan, Michigan State's search appears to be a five-man race. Leading the way is Duke's Mike Elko (+450), whom BetMichigan gives an 18.2% chance of ultimately landing the job.
Right behind Elko is Kansas' Lance Leipold (+600, 14.3%) followed by a three-way tie between Toledo's Jason Candle, Oregon State's Jonathan Smith and Arizona's Jedd Fisch (+700, 12.5% each).
After those five candidates, there is a sizeable gap between the next guy on the list. Marshall's Charles Huff and Iowa State's Matt Campbell (+1250, 7.4%) take up the next two spots, followed by three-time national championship winner Urban Meyer and current Michigan State interim head coach Harlon Barnett (+1500, 6.3%).
Michigan State (4-7 overall, 2-6 Big Ten) concludes its regular season with a neutral site matchup with No. 11 Penn State (9-2, 6-2) at Ford Field in Detroit (7:30 p.m./NBC). The Spartans are currently a 21-point underdog against the Nittany Lions. The expectation is for Michigan State to announce its next head football coach in the days following that game.
