Injury Report: Michigan State without multiple starters vs. Penn State
As has been the case for the majority of the 2023 season, Michigan State football will be without multiple starters in its game against No. 11 Penn State tonight at Ford Field in Detroit.
In its weekly availability report to the Big Ten, the Spartans listed 13 total players 'Out' against the Nittany Lions. Curiously, the list does not include starting center Nick Samac, who interim head coach Harlon Barnett confirmed on Monday would not play in the regular season-finale. Other starters who are 'Out' tonight include wide receiver Tre Mosley and cornerbacks Dillon Tatum and Charles Brantley, each of whom have missed several games now this season.
Starting running back Nathan Carter, who was injured in the third quarter last week during Michigan State's win over Indiana, was not listed on the availability report, which indicates he's good to go tonight against Penn State.
Meanwhile, former starting quarterback Noah Kim remains 'Out' for the fourth consecutive week for MSU, meaning it will be walk-on Andrew Schorfhaar who backs up redshirt freshman Katin Houser again tonight. True freshman QB Sam Leavitt has not played since appearing in his four games for the Spartans, allowing him to preserve a redshirt.
Other players listed 'Out' for Michigan State include wide receiver Jaron Glover, defensive ends Brandon Wright and Bai Jobe, linebacker Darius Snow, defensive backs Semar Melvin, Marqui Lowery and Brandon Lewis, and defensive tackles Jarrett Jackson and Dre Butler.
As for more positive news, offensive lineman Geno VanDeMark appears to be available tonight for Michigan State after missing last week. Safeties Khalil Majeed and Khary Crump both appear to be back as well for the Spartans after being 'Out' against Indiana. Tight end Brennan Parachek, who was 'Questionable' a week ago, looks to be available as well.
Previous Michigan State players who have been listed 'Out' for the season include running back Jalen Berger, linebacker Jacoby Windmon, safety Armorion Smith, defensive tackle Alex VanSumeren, running back Jaelon Barbarin and offensive linemen Stanton Ramil and Gavin Broscious.
