Michigan State Legacy Linebacker Enters Transfer Portal

Did not see this one coming, but his injury struggles the last two seasons may have been an indicator...

Michigan State's football programs will see a lot of overhaul under new head coach Jonathan Smith, and that includes the roster as well.

On Monday, redshirt junior linebacker Darius Snow — the son of MSU basketball alum Eric Snow and nephew of former MSU All-American linebacker Percy Snow — entered the NCAA transfer portal as a graduate transfer.

Snow spent four seasons in East Lansing, and showed great promise while starting nine games during his redshirt freshman season in 2021. Unfortunately, his Spartan career was derailed by a serious leg injury in the 2022 season-opener, which caused Snow to miss the remainder of that year and the beginning of the 2023 season. This fall, Snow appeared in just four games for Michigan State, recording six tackles in limited playing time. He missed the final six games of the season with an undisclosed injury.

During his four-year career at Michigan State, Snow recorded 98 tackles (5.5 for loss), an interception, three pass breakups and a fumble recovery. The bast majority of that production came in his redshirt freshman season in 2021. Due to the free year of eligibility granted to players in 2020 by the NCAA due to COVID, Snow has two seasons of college eligibility remaining and indicated he could appeal for a third.

Because Snow has already graduated from Michigan State, he was eligible to enter the transfer portal prior to the fall transfer window which opens to undergraduate students on Dec. 4.
