Michigan State Offensive Lineman Suffers Knee Injury

Unfortunate news for this young Spartan...

Michigan State is enjoying much more depth and available bodies along its offensive line this year than the Spartans did a year ago, but part of that depth took a hit this week during spring practice.

Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Gavin Broscious revealed an injury to his left knee on Wednesday night with a picture posted on Twitter.

"Time to get better every day! Let's work," Broscious wrote on his post, while tagging Michigan State Football assistant athletic trainer Lionel Rice.

The severity of Broscious' injury is currently unclear, though it looks as if the redshirt freshman could miss significant time.

Broscious was a member of the Spartans' 2022 recruiting class out of Goodyear (Ariz.) Desert Edge High School. The 247Sports composite rankings listed Broscious as the No. 749 overall player, No. 37 interior offensive lineman and No. 11 player from the state of Arizona in the 2022 class.

Last season was a redshirt year for Broscious, who has yet to make an appearance in a game for the Green and White.

Broscious was the highest-ranked offensive lineman prospect that Michigan State signed in 2022. The Spartans also signed tackles Ashton Lepo and Braden Miller, as well as interior offensive lineman Kristian Phillips.

Michigan State made a bigger splash with its offensive line recruiting in 2023, when it signed Keyshawn Blackstock — the No. 1 interior offensive lineman in junior college — as well as four-star tackle Stanton Ramill and high-end three-star IOL Cole Dellinger.

The Spartans' added depth at offensive line has already paid dividends this spring, as offensive coordinator/QB coach Jay Johnson and O-line coach Chris Kapilovic both said there was a "night and day" difference between spring practice this year and last.

"We've got eight guys that we can play with, and I'm hoping we can get to that nine or ten," Kapilovic said.

Michigan State will host fans on April 15 for the football program's annual "Green and White game." The format of the spring game has not yet been announced.
