Former 4-star, top transfer addition no longer on Michigan State's roster

This season has been an abstract and total disaster for Michigan State Football...

Just hours before Michigan State attempts to end a five-game losing streak with a road tilt against Minnesota, a team spokesperson has confirmed that defensive end Tunmise Adeleye is no longer on the Spartans' roster. The redshirt sophomore's name has not appeared in the transfer portal as of Saturday afternoon.

A former five-star prospect in high school, Adeleye was the crown jewel of former head coach Mel Tucker's transfer additions this offseason — a transfer group that has mostly disappointed in 2023. From a talent perspective, Adeleye was a big get for the Spartans. A Top 40 prospect in the 2021 recruiting class, Adeleye spent two seasons at Texas A&M, but entered the transfer portal after making just a minimal impact with the Aggies.

Michigan State swooped in and thought they had landed an immediate impact type of guy in Adeleye, but his tenure in East Lansing is apparently already over. In his brief time at MSU, Adeleye recorded just nine tackles, including two for loss, one sack and a forced fumble in six games and one start this season.

Michigan State beefed up its defensive line via the transfer portal in the offseason, adding Adeleye, Liberty transfer Dre Butler, Florida State transfer Jarrett Jackson and Colorado transfer Jalen Sami. Both Butler and Jackson have out for the majority of the season with injuries, and Sami has been banged up here and then as well. It's safe to say the transfer additions have not lived up to the expectations MSU's coaching staff had for them coming into the year.
