Michigan State WR Tyrell Henry transferring to Big Ten rival

The Spartans lose one of their young wide receivers to a fellow Big Ten program...

The first of four Michigan State wide receivers to enter the NCAA transfer portal this offseason has found a new home in the Big Ten Conference.

On Friday, sophomore Tyrell Henry announced via social media that he will transfer to Wisconsin, joining head coach Luke Fickell and the Badgers after two seasons with the Spartans. Henry has two seasons of eligibility remaining to spend in Madison.

Henry was Michigan State's primary kick and punt returner over the past two seasons and found playing time at receiver as well in 2023. This past season, Henry recorded 195 receiving yards on 24 receptions with three touchdowns. In two years as a return specialist, Henry totaled 388 kick return yards on 22 attempts (17.6 average) and 89 punt return yards on 13 attempts (6.8 average).

A native of Michigan, Henry signed with Michigan State out of Roseville High School as part of the Spartans' 2022 recruiting class. According to 247Sports composite rankings, Henry was considered a three-star prospect, the No. 777 player nationally and No. 19 player from the state of Michigan in his class.

With Henry headed to Madison, Michigan State awaits final decisions from three other wide receivers who have entered the transfer portal: redshirt freshman Jaron Glover, redshirt junior Christian Fitzpatrick and redshirt junior walk-on Sebastian Brown.
