Spartans Trail Seminoles, Tide, Tigers in National Championship Futures Betting

As the 2014 College Football season gets underway this weekend, the Florida State Seminoles sit atop the College Football betting odds to repeat as national champions. The Seminoles, who kick off their 2014 season on Saturday as 17.5-point favorites over the Oklahoma State Cowboys, are solid 4/1 favorites to defend their title in College Football futures betting.

The team will once again look for leadership from quarterback Jameis Winston. The 20 year-old was the youngest player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, when he took home the honors last season, and is a 9/2 favorite to be the first player to win the award in back-to-back seasons since Archie Griffin accomplished the feat in 1974 and 1975.

The Seminoles are trailed in national championship betting by the Alabama Crimson Tide, with odds of 5/1. Alabama appeared to be on track for a berth in the national championship game last season before a heartbreaking 38-24 loss to the Auburn Tigers in the Iron Bowl. The loss ended the Tide’s hopes of winning the SEC conference championship and cleared the path for Auburn to face the Seminoles for the national title.

The Tigers came up short in the big game, dropping a 34-31 decision to Florida State, but remain in the mix of favorites with odds of 9/1 to emerge as the top team in the nation this season.

The Michigan State Spartans kick off their 2014 College Football season on Friday night when they welcome the Jacksonville State Gamecocks to Spartan Stadium. The Spartans are heavy 32-point favorites against a Gamecocks squad who finished 11-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2013.

After posting a 13-1 record last season, capped by a 24-20 win over the Stanford Cardinal in the Rose Bowl, the Spartans have 5/2 odds to qualify for College Football’s new four-team playoff, and sit just short of the favorites, with betting odds of 22/1 to win the national championship.

Michigan State will be led by quarterback Connor Cook, who is currently the sole Spartan given Heisman Trophy consideration in College Football online betting. The 21 year-old, who threw for 2755 yards and 22 TDs in 12 starts last season, currently trails the favorites in Heisman Trophy betting, with odds of 25/1.
