How Did Michigan State Get On Top?

The Michigan State Spartans have become a popular name on with any online prediction site. This is thanks to how the Spartans has been built from the ground up with Mark Dantonio leading the team to a Big Ten title. Of course, Dantonio has become a big star in East Lansing thanks to his success.

Michigan State hasn’t always been this good. The team had only one ten-win season in the thirty years and three conference titles before Mark Dantonio arrived. The team has had five ten-win seasons in the last six years plus three more Big Ten titles in that short time period. They have been in the top six of the national rankings in the last three years too.

As great as Michigan State has been, the team is facing challenges from Michigan, Ohio State and more recently Iowa while also trying to get into the four-team playoff. There are a few things that the Spartans can do in order to stay on top of the Big Ten.

Keep Stable
First, the Spartans have to keep as stable as possible to win. Since 2007, Dantonio has only had to replace coordinators three times. He’s done this with in-house promotions as well. The need for the program to stay stable is important to its overall success.

Of course, coaches have gotten some good raises in recent time. Dantonio has gone from earning $1.1 million per year to $4.3 million in his career. His assistants are getting a quarter of a million each as well. This is a better move than what happened with Wisconsin offensive coordinator Dave Aranda where he left Madison because he wasn’t getting paid what he wanted.

Get Great Recruits
Recruiting is critical to the success of any program. The key is for a scouting staff to find the right kinds of talent and that is what Dantonio and company have been working on. They have found many two-star recruits that have blossomed like Darqueze Dennard and Le’Veon Bell. Some low-level prospects like Connor Cook, Jack Conklin and Shilique Calhoun have become huge names too with all three being big NFL Draft options in 2016.

Get Good Facilities
Having great facilities is also important. The weight room in East Lansing is about twice the size as it used to be while FieldTurf is used on all the school’s practice fields. There’s also that big $10 million video board at the stadium worth mentioning. Keeping great facilities under control certainly helps

What About 2016?
2016 is going to be challenging, what with Jack Conklin, Connor Cook and Aaron Burbridge no longer there on offense. The secondary also struggled for a good part of last season. However, the Spartans have been known to find great diamonds in the offense whether it’s Tony Lippett in 2014 or Burbridge last year. The team will certainly be looking for that next big standout in 2016.

The success that Mike (Sorry Sports Illustrated/ESPN had to)Dantonio has brought for Michigan State has made the team a big choice to see with some great college football sportsbook odds to go with it. It is no wonder why so many other teams want to be just like Sparty is.
