MacEachern Signs with the St. Louis Blues
EAST LANSING - Michigan State junior forward Mackenzie MacEachern has signed a two-year entry level contract with the NHL’s St. Louis Blues, the organization’s President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced on Wednesday, March 30. MacEachern was selected in the third round (67th overall) by the Blues in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
“Mackenzie’s game has progressed significantly over the past three seasons and it’s great to see him develop into a player that will compete at the NHL level,” said MSU head coach Tom Anastos. “We are excited for Mac and thank him for his hard work, commitment and contribution that he made to our university and Spartan Hockey during his time at Michigan State.”
“I’d like to thank all the coaches, my teammates and Michigan State for the opportunity. Being at Michigan State has definitely been the best three years of my life,” said MacEachern. “I’m excited to move forward, but I’ll really miss MSU because of all the support. You couldn’t have a better support system than we have at Michigan State.”
MacEachern led the Spartans in 2015-16 with a career-high 30 points and 14 goals, while his 16 assists tied for second on the team. The native of Troy ended the season with a career-high eight-game point streak (4-5-9) and produced points in 11 of the final 13 games. He led all Spartans with eight multi-point games.
As a sophomore, MacEachern ranked second on the team with 26 points (11 G, 15 A). He tied for first among Spartan freshman with eight goals in 2013-14 and produced 12 points.
MacEachern played in every game in his three years in the Green and White – 108 in total - and ends his Spartan career with 68 points (33 G, 35 A). He is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
