19 MN ATH Treyton Welch Says of Michigan State, “I love their style of play.”
With the offseason before his senior season in full-swing, Buffalo (MN) 2019 ATH Treyton Welch is starting to see his recruitment pick up as he’s hearing from a handful of Division 1 programs, including #16 Michigan State.
Welch recently talked about the recruiting process with Spartan Nation and said that he’s always been drawn to the Big Ten and is a fan of Michigan State’s brand of football
“I’ve always kind of loved the Big Ten in general and I think Michigan State is a huge part of the Big Ten,” he said. “I love their style of play.”
While he doesn’t have an offer as of yet, Welch has gained the interest of several schools, including Minnesota and Iowa State, along with the Spartans.
Welch said that he’s been recruited most by Michigan State quarterbacks coach Brad Salem and has been keeping in touch with him recently.
“I don’t know for sure if coach Salem has stopped in my school,” he said. “But he sent me a few notes on Twitter just to keep in touch.”
The 6-foot-3, 200 pound athlete, who has made a name for himself playing wide receiver at the high school level, said that his next step, as far as Michigan State is concerned, is to take a visit to East Lansing, which he hopes to speak with Salem about in the near future.
“That would be my next step,” he said. “I’m hoping to contact coach Salem and ask to maybe come out for a junior day or something like that and get on campus.”
Because of his versatility, Welch is capable of playing a number of different positions at the next level and described himself as a go-getter, who would welcome any challenge.
“I’m kind of the ‘go-get them’, determined type of player,” he said. “I’m really competitive, I don’t like to get beaten.”
Welch, who currently holds a 3.77 GPA and said that he’s interested in studying business management in college, said that he hopes to be able to make his college decision before the start of his senior season at the high school level.
“I feel like it would probably be best to get it out of the way before the start of my senior season,” he said. “Just so I can focus on my senior season and win a state championship.
