2009 Actual Season Record:Â 10-2

Spartan Nation Predicted 2009 Regular Season Record: 11-1

Predicted 2010 record:Â 9-3

Projected Big Ten 2010 Standing: 4th

Head Coach:Â JoePa

What went right in 2009? Almost everything. The Lions were coached well and played well. They dominated and played hard and had a very good year. They were among the statistical leader in every offensive and defensive state among the Big Ten.

What went wrong in 2009? The special teams units. When you think of a JoePa team, you think of discipline and excellence. They had that on offense and defense in 2009, but they struggled with their special teams. In fact, had their special teams been even a little better they would have beaten Iowa and been the 11-2 I predicted.

Analysis: Hopefully, the idiots in Happy Valley realize how dumb they were a few short years ago calling for JoePa’s head. He runs his team like an incredible CEO and although he may not do what all head coaches do, he wins and runs his staff in a great way.

He is a treasure and whether or not you like the Lions, you should root for a man that has done it for 45 years, graduates kids, and doesn’t cheat. I am a gigantic JoePa fan. The Lions did lose a lot, they have 7 offensive and 5 defensive starters back, but what they did lose was big. I predicted 9-3 because I don’t think they beat OSU, Iowa or Alabama on the road.

How is this program trending? Upward, of course. This is PSU. JoePa runs an excellent program and shows no signs of slowing down. He will continue to win because he has a loyal staff of coaches that run his program as he does a masterful job of overseeing it. Nine wins is a great season anywhere, but there are some in the Nittany Nation that won’t be happy.

The Lions are addressing their special teams this spring and will be back and good as always come fall.
