The Michigan State football program took a hefty hit when it lost wide receiver Keon Coleman in the transfer portal.

Coleman's career campaign in his lone season with the Seminoles, which established him as one of the top wide receivers in the nation, only rubbed salt in the wound for Spartan fans, who, meanwhile, had to sit through one of their program's worst seasons in recent memory.

Now, Coleman is one of the top wideouts in this year's NFL Draft class and could go as early as the first round. While the young receiver decided he did not want to finish his collegiate career as a Spartan, he still holds his former school close to his heart.

"Every day at Michigan State I just enjoyed because coming in, I had a lot of work to do and just put my head down and worked," Coleman said at the NFL Combine last month. "And I'm forever grateful; they jump-started my career there."

Coleman played both football and basketball in his first year at Michigan State, though he had larger role on the gridiron. The wideout finished his freshman season with 50 yards and a touchdown on seven receptions, two of which came in the Spartans' win over Pittsburgh in the 2021 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

The next year, Coleman sprouted into Michigan State's top receiver, leading the team with 798 yards and seven touchdowns on 58 receptions, all of which were team-bests.

Last season, Coleman posted 658 receiving yards and 11 receiving touchdowns and was named to the All-ACC First Team as a wide receiver, all-purpose player, and a specialist. He helped lead the Seminoles to a 13-1 record, their best since the 2014 season.

Coleman recorded a 40-yard dash time of 4.61 seconds, a 10-yard split time of 1.54 seconds, a vertical jump of 38 inches, and a broad jump of 10 feet, 7 inches at this year's NFL Combine.
