Michigan State Football Feels Good About Their Future
Looking forward to the 2024 season, new Michigan State coach Jonathan Smith must prepare his team to face low expectations and go above and beyond.
Last Wednesday, March 27, returning senior linebacker Cal Haladay told reporters that when coach Smith arrived on the scene, it was "low ego high output," which is excellent news for Spartan fans. Haladay expressed his desire to play for Smith, saying that it will make a difference and that the philosophy for this newly revamped team is that "the star of the team is the team," making it known to the whole program that no matter if you are the best or worst player, nobody is above anybody.
Bonding will have to be a huge part if the team wants to be successful this season. With a new and young roster and coaching staff, there are many new faces and relationships that have to be formed.
Former Oregon State quarterback Aidan Chiles, who played his freshman season under Smith, discussed with media members how moving to East Lansing was an easy switch to follow his coach. He has trust in Smith and said he knows it will be a tough year. He knows there will be struggles, but Chiles is prepared to do what needs to be done and lead the Spartans to a better year and a more promising future.
Chiles said that coach Smith "treats everybody the same, everybody is a player and everybody is a person also. I can talk to him about anything".
It is always good to have a coach that players can talk to, who will listen and provide an ear. This is big for a struggling program with a young quarterback, as it will help with growth and output.
Fans hope to see big things come from the Michigan State Spartans this season. It all starts in the spring, and they are off to a good start. With a team that has trust in the coach and a coach who cares for the players outside of football, things are looking up for the Spartans as they enter this new era.
The Michigan State Spartan Football Spring Green and White Game (Spartan Showcase) will be held at the High Cathedral of the Spartan Nation, Spartan Stadium, on April 20, 2024, at 2 p.m.
