Spartans' Jordan Hall Tasked With Taking the Next Step

With a year under his belt, expectations for Michigan State football linebacker Jordan Hall are going to be higher going into the 2024 season.

Michigan State linebacker Jordan Hall had himself a promising freshman season for the Spartans.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound linebacker finished the season fourth on the team in total tackles (64) while playing in all 12 games, half of which he started.

Considering this Michigan State program was going to be different from the one Hall had originally committed to back in 2022, it would have been reasonable to think he would pack his bags and look elsewhere this offseason.

But Hall saw an opportunity.

"In late December, I just wanted to see how the chips fell," Hall told reporters on Tuesday. "I believe I made the right decision and staying here. I really like the new staff. When I talked to Coach [Joe] Rossi on the phone, when he was first hired here, he had a few good things to say about me, but mostly, it was about corrections he could mostly help me improve on basic linebacker skills, blitzing, tackling, play recognition and footwork. He has a lot of experience, coaches a lot of good defenses and really good players."

It makes sense that Rossi's intent to help better Hall would be appealing to the young linebacker, as Hall felt like he had more to offer than he did in his first season.

"I had some goals I had going into last season that fell short," Hall said. "I always felt like I was more than capable of going out there and competing with some of the best players."

Hall will not only be looking to improve as a player but also as a leader.

"It's still improving," he said. "In that room I'm still the young guy. Just trying to be as vocal as I can, still trying to accept the role the best I can."

Hall already has reason to believe he can thrive in the new defensive scheme, as he feels it benefits the linebackers.

"Coach Rossi has coached a lot of good linebackers that are in the NFL, he's a great coach," Hall said. "Being here with him, taking in the knowledge he gives, is what's really attractive to me."

The Michigan State Spartan Football Spring Green and White Game (Spring Showcase) will be held at the High Cathedral of the Spartan Nation, Spartan Stadium, on April 20, 2024, at 2 p.m.
