There's quite a gap between Michigan State men's basketball's second-best 2024 recruit and its third-best, three-star power forward Jesse McCulloch, but that doesn't mean he will be any less talented.

McCulloch, a 6-foot-9, 215-pound big man from Cleveland, Ohio, is ranked the No. 164 recruit in the class of 2024, the 29th-best center and the No. 6 prospect from Ohio, according to 247Sports' composite rankings.

McCulloch visited Michigan State in March 2023 before committing to the Spartans the following month. He signed with Michigan State on Nov. 8, National Signing Day.

The 2024 recruit also had offers from Akron, Alabama, Butler, Cincinnati, Cleveland State, Eastern Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Kent State, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Ohio State, Toledo, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin and Xavier. His final choices were narrowed down to Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Xavier and Alabama.

"I would say I'm a really skilled four-man that can pick and pop, pick and roll, guard guards," McCulloch said in his announcement on 247Sports. "Personally, just going to play hard."

Of his final choices, East Lansing was the second-closest to home for the recruit, being roughly 230 miles away.

"They were one of the first schools that offered me -- high-major wise," McCulloch said. "And they made me feel like home. It feels like a real family over there.

"I know every single coach, I know the players, I know the incoming freshmen. So, it really just feels like home."

McCulloch explained what he can bring to the Spartans' program.

"They can expect a guy that's going to come into campus and just play hard," McCulloch said. "Someone who can stretch the floor out, play hard with his teammates, match the energies, bring energy, bring leadership as a freshman."

McCulloch played at Lutherin East High School in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. He comes off a Division III state championship victory with the program, as it defeated Harvest Preparatory School.

The following is an evaluation of McCulloch from Michael Roth of Prep Sports.

"The dominant force for Lutheran East, McCulloch will likely go down as the best player to ever put on a Falcon uniform. With back-to-back state titles with a dominant, 18 point, 9 rebound and 4 block performance, McCulloch dominated in multiple phases of the game against a scrappy Harvest Prep squad. With a size advantage in the paint, McCulloch was efficient as he shot 8/11 on 2-point field goals."

The Michigan State Spartan Football Spring Green and White Game (Spring Showcase) will be held at the High Cathedral of the Spartan Nation, Spartan Stadium, on April 20, 2024, at 2 p.m.
