EXCLUSIVE: MSU Football 2025 Target CB LaRue Zamorano Has Potential For Playing Time Right Away
LaRue Zamorano is a three-star 2025 cornerback and a top target for Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith. Smith has found success finding cornerbacks in the transfer portal, but he will want to build long-term depth at the position. Zamorano has great potential.
The prospect has an 88 grade, per 247Sports' composite rankings -- that is a high three-star with Power Four impact starter and NFL potential. Zamorano is the No. 40 cornerback in the class and the No. 39 player in the football-rich state of California.
Michigan State cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin knows a thing or two about defensive backs -- he has found success coaching them at both the college and professional levels. Martin is one of the biggest reasons Zamorano is interested in the Spartans -- and Zamorano's unique style as a cornerback is one of the biggest reasons Martin is interested in him.
"[Martin] and Coach Smith and [defensive coordinator] Joe Rossi, they all talked to me about how much of a physical corner I am," Zamorano told Spartan Nation. "They love how I can tackle, because most corners just can't really tackle, like that. But they love how physical I am and they love I am in man coverage and zone coverage, they feel they believe I can fit their scheme very, very well and potentially come in and play as a freshman ... They believe in me and that's what it's all about."
Zamorano said that the coaching staff would plan on putting him at an outside cornerback spot, on an island by himself. Outside corner should fit Zamorano well -- the 6-foot-2, 175-pound defensive back is fast and said his favorite aspect about playing cornerback is being physical and "beating a receiver up at the line."
Zamorano told Spartan Nation that Michigan State is his top team right now. His parents love the coaching staff, and his father, also LaRue, developed a connection with Martin. Zamorano had previously told Spartan Nation that he wanted to go to a school that would coach him up and develop him both on and off the field.
The Spartans rolled out the "red carpet" for Zamorano.
Zamorano will be visiting USC, once the presumed favorite to land Zamorano, on June 7th. Zamorano also has visits scheduled for Kansas and Washington.
