EAST LANSING, Michigan -- Michigan State men's soccer and Lansing Ignite FC announced Friday that the teams will play an exhibition match in the inaugural Capital Cup on April 16 at 7 p.m. at Cooley Law School Stadium.

The Capital Cup is included as a part of LIFC season tickets, while single-game tickets for the match will be made available starting in March through the MSU Athletic Ticket Office and online at www.MSUSpartans.com.

"MSU soccer is really excited to start a great relationship with Lansing Ignite, and I can't think of a better way than the Capital Cup at Cooley Law School Stadium," MSU men's soccer head coach Damon Rensing said. "The greater Lansing area has a very strong soccer community and the combination of MSU soccer and the Ignite will serve that community almost year-round. I have seen the success of the Crosstown Showdown with our baseball team and the Lugnuts and hope that the Capital Cup will have a similar atmosphere. It should be a great game."

Michigan State is coming off of one of it most successful seasons in school history, reaching the NCAA College Cup for the first time in 50 years. The Spartans ended the season with a 14-5-4 record. The 2019 Michigan State squad will bring back two of its top four scorers in midfielder Giuseppe Barone and forward Farai Mutatu.

Set to kick off its first season as a professional club in League One, LIFC will be led by head coach Nate Miller and assistant coaches Joel DeLass, Tim Daniels and Wail Zenga.
