EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State track and field earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors, including the team honor for the women’s squad.

All told, 361 NCAA Division I teams were honored for their academics by the USTFCCCA. Breaking it down, 220 of those were women’s teams compared to 141 men’s programs. The highest cumulative GPA of any team belonged to the University of San Francisco’s women for the third consecutive year. On the men’s side, both Lipscomb University and Marist College tied with a GPA of 3.53.

The Michigan State women were honored with an impressive 3.36 GPA.

In order to be in contention for Scholar Team of the Year, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.25 cumulative team GPA.

Individually, four Spartan men captured USTFCCCA All-Academic accolades. Seniors Noah GaryMax Knoblock and Clark Ruiz joined sophomore Winter Romeyn on the All-Academic squad.

Overall, 624 Division I men earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors during the 2016-17 track & field seasons.

On the women’s side, 12 Michigan State women earned USTFCCCA All-Academic accolades. Seniors Bridget BlakeKatelyn Daniels and Jade Madison led the way for the Spartans. Junior Ellen DiPietroKayla KavulichErin McDonaldTaylor Mullins joined sophomores Carlyn ArteagaLynsie Gram, Dillon McClintock, Jeralyn Poe and Karrigan Smith on the list.

Overall, 874 Division I women earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher. For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org. For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
