EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State softball team (14-10) concludes tournament action when it travels to Bloomington, Ind., this weekend (March 19-20) for the Hoosier Classic hosted by Indiana. The Spartans open action against Central Michigan on Saturday at 12:15 p.m. MSU follows with a 2:30 p.m. contest against Wright State. The Green and White conclude action on Sunday with its first game against Eastern Michigan at 10 a.m., followed by 12:15 p.m. game against Loyola.

 

The Spartans are led offensively by senior Lindsey Hansen. On the season, Hansen is hitting .405 at the plate, knocking in 28 RBIs. Hansen also ranks top in the conference in home runs with 10 dingers. Hansen recently moved to first all-time in school history with 32 career homers. The Valparaiso, Fla., native, also ranks second in the conference in total bases (66), third in runs scored (25) and fourth in RBIs (28).

 

Leading the Spartans on the rubber with her 3.40 ERA is freshman Cassee Layne. Layne enters the weekend with a team-high 54 strikeouts in 70.0 innings of work. On the year, Layne has held her opponents to a .265 batting average and has limited the opposition to one triple and two home runs.

 

At Indiana University, the Spartans will face Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Loyola and Wright State. The Chippewas currently are 11-7 on the year, and are led by Amanda Patrick who is hitting .356. The 7-2 Eagles are led by Stacie Skodinski who is .385 from the plate. The Ramblers currently boast a record of 8-5 with Brooke Andresen hitting a team-high .349. The Raiders are led by Louie Haney who is batting .345 and currently have a 9-8 record.
