Top-10 Interceptions Leaders in Michigan State Football History

Spartan Nation dives into the best defensive backs in Michigan State football history.

Year after year, the Michigan State football program has seen loads of defensive talent come through East Lansing.

In recent memory, Spartan fans will remember Darqueze Dennard, the first player to win the Jim Thorpe Award in school history and the player who dubbed MSU’s secondary as the ‘No Fly Zone.’

Kurtis Drummond, a member of that particular defense, left Michigan State tied for seventh on the all-time interceptions list with 12.

Lynn Chandnois played for the Spartans from 1946-49 and proved to be a star defensively, ending his career with 20 interceptions, a record not yet broken.

In his final season at Michigan State, he totaled seven picks in one year, making him tied for fifth on the single-season interception record.

The former Spartan was drafted eighth overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1950 NFL Draft, where he would win the NFL Player of the Year Award (1952) and play in the Pro Bowl twice.
