Rumors sure move quickly. They can also be put to rest in a hurry.

Pioneer Press columnist Charley Walters wrote in his column over the weekend that “people close to the Gophers will be surprised if sophomore basketball guard Braeden Carrington from Brooklyn Park doesn’t enter the NCAA transfer portal.”

That was quickly amplified on social media as Gophers fan accounts, including GopherHole, made posts on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, saying that Carrington is "expected to hit the transfer portal."

But Carrington’s mom, Holly, in her own post on X, attempted to put that rumor to rest, calling it “fake news.” GopherHole subsequently deleted the post.

Carrington is currently away from the Gophers program as he takes some time for mental health. He started the first 10 games of the season and averaged 5.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 24.7 minutes per game.

Carrington posted a game photo of himself on X as the rumors swirled Tuesday, perhaps his own attempt at putting them to rest.
