Basketball fans in Minnesota have shown their excitement for a blockbuster game that is still nearly three months away.

The Gophers women's basketball program announced that its Feb. 28 game against Caitlin Clark's and the No. 4 Iowa Hawkeyes at Williams Arena has already sold out. The advanced sellout is the program's first since the 2018 season opener, which was Lindsay Whalen's first game as head coach.

The Feb. 28 game is set to celebrate senior night, and it'll be a 'Maroon Out' where fans are encouraged to wear their most creative maroon outfits.

Clark leads the nation averaging 29 points per game and is expected to be a top pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Sophomore guard Mara Braun leads to the Gophers in scoring at 18.8 points per game, including a 33-point effort in Minnesota's double-overtime win over Drake on Saturday.

Under new head coach Dawn Plitzuweit, the Gophers are off to a 7-1 start to the 2023-24 season. The Gophers travel to Lexington, Kentucky to take on the Kentucky Wildcats Wednesday night. Minnesota will open their Big Ten schedule Sunday against Purdue.

The Gophers have not beaten Iowa since downing the Hawkeyes in the Big Ten tournament in 2018.
