Cristian Driver, son of Packers great, commits to Gophers
Minnesota’s efforts to become a more efficient passing team in 2024 took another step in the right direction when on Sunday the Gophers received a commitment from former Penn State wide receiver Cristian Driver.
Driver, the son of former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver, announced his commitment on Instagram.
Driver was a redshirt freshman in 2023 and played in six games for the Nittany Lions, recording two tackles on special teams and catching his first career pass against Delaware on Sept. 9.
Driver wasn’t listed as a receiver at Penn State but instead as an athlete. He was rated as a four-star recruit by 247Sports, On3, Rivals and ESPN coming out of Liberty Christian High School in Argyle, Texas, where he played under former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten.
ESPN ranked Driver as the No. 13 safety and No. 174 recruit in the country.
Minnesota’s passing game will feature a new quarterback next season with the arrival of New Hampshire transfer Max Brosmer, whose top target will presumably be returning leading receiver Daniel Jackson.
