Gophers football coach PJ Fleck is getting an amendment to his contract.

It's certainly not as exciting as an extension but it's once again clear that the interest from the outside, this time UCLA, has caused the University of Minnesota to give Fleck more of what he wants.

In a proposal set to go before the University of Minnesota Board of Regents at a meeting next week, the U has added a yearly retention bonus and an increase in salary pool for his coaching staff.

If approved, the retention bonuses would kick in starting in 2024, with the first installment of $350,000 being paid to Fleck on March 8 and another installment of the same amount being paid on December 31 for a total of $700,000 in 2024.

Following retention bonuses will be paid on December 31 each year through 2029, increasing by $100,000 each year.

Fleck's total salary, before the retention bonuses, equals $6 million. That is made up of a $400,000 base salary plus an annual $5.6 million supplemental compensation.

The salary pool for Fleck's coaching staff will be increased by $500,000, which would now rank 15th in the expanded Big Ten conference according to University of Minnesota.

The full agreement can be read here, starting on page 55.

In seven years with the Gophers, Fleck has a 50-34 record, three times winning nine games or more in a single season. He has won five bowl games since taking over in Minnesota.
