Big Ten men's hockey tourney bracket: Gophers to face Penn State
The Big Ten men's hockey tournament has arrived with the bracket being unveiled following Saturday's conclusion of the regular season, and Minnesota has some work to do in order to win a third conference tournament title.
The Gophers, who own six regular season titles since the Big Ten hockey conference debuted in 2014, have won the tournament twice before, most recently in 2021 and before that in 2015. To a win third tournament title they'll have to defeat Penn State in the best-of-three first round series and then win the single elimination semifinals and championship.
Here are the matchups (Michigan State is the No. 1 seed and gets a first round bye):
- #4 Michigan vs. #5 Notre Dame
- #2 Wisconsin vs. #7 Ohio State
- #3 Minnesota vs. #6 Penn State
The first round is March 8-10 (Friday-Sunday), followed the semifinals March 16 and the championship on March 23.
The Gophers went 3-1 against Penn State during the regular season, including back-to-back 3-0 shutouts on Feb. 9-10.
