Gophers extend wrestling coach Brandon Eggum

The Gophers and wrestling coach Brandon Eggum have agreed to a contract extension that will keep Eggum at the U through the 2025-26 season.
Eggum, a former Gophers wrestler himself who’s in his seventh season as head coach of the program, has helped develop 12 national champions, 33 individual conference champions and 104 All-Americans since he joined the staff in 2000-01. He has an all-time duals record of 68-35 as head coach, including a 5-0 mark this season.
“It is an honor to lead this storied program, along with our amazing staff,” Eggum said in a statement. “We will continue to build on the tradition built by those who have worn the Maroon and Gold, keep recruiting at a high level and develop men of high character. We are excited about the future of this program.”
Eggum has coached both Gophers who have won the Hodge Trophy — awarded to the best college wrestler — including their most recent winner and Olympic champion Gable Steveson, who won the award back-to-back times in 2020 and 2021.
“(Eggum) has done a fine job leading our wrestling program,” Gophers athletic director Mark Coyle said in a statement. “He has established a successful culture where our student-athletes are excelling on the mat and in the classroom, and we are excited for him to continue to lead our program in the future.”
