Just A Bulldog Minute: Is Men’s Basketball In Tournament Consideration?
The men’s basketball regular season is heading into March and now that teams are in the thick of it, conference games mean more than just a heavy-weighted record. These wins are vital for tournament consideration.
MSU also have earned and impressive 77-72 victory over No. 5 Tennessee this season followed by a 64-58 win over No. 8 Auburn.
The Bulldogs have also racked up their last two SEC road wins over Missouri and LSU with victories of by 20-plus points.
However, what the fans are really waiting for is the bracketology updates to see if Mississippi State is on track for the NCAA Tournament.
Although Mississippi State has a strong enough profile to put them as a single-digit seed, the Q3 and Q4 loss at the beginning of the season still hangs over the Bulldogs’ heads.
Along with these losses, Mississippi State is 2-6 on the road and both wins are coming from not-so-impressive teams. A 227 strength of a non-conference schedule also takes away some points.
On the contrary, the positives for the team do have more weight than the negatives, so here’s what needs to be done to lock in tournament consideration.
The team needs to pull in the final stretch with wins over Auburn, Texas A&M, and South Carolina to continue on the positive route. With one more regular season win, MSU will have done enough to guarantee a spot called on Selection Sunday.
Later today, Mississippi State will get the chance to lock in one more win against No. 11 Auburn away at 3:05 p.m. to fight for another conference victory. As of now the team is 8-7 SEC, and have won five of their last six games, but this game will be important to keep the team on a positive track for conference consideration.
