Just A Bulldog Minute: What Mississippi State Men's Hoops Needs Moving Forward
The SEC and NCAA tournaments are right around the corner and Mississippi State's men's basketball team still has a bit of work to do.
The Bulldogs are coming off of a 78-63 road loss to Auburn this past Saturday, and with two games to go in the regular season, both of which are scheduled for this week, the Bulldogs have only so much time to regroup and prepare for a postseason bid this month.
The Bulldogs are on the verge of a 20 win season, but it won't be easy for them. For the final week of the regular season, they play at Texas A&M on Wednesday, followed by hosting no. 18 South Carolina on Saturday to cap off the regular season.
The Bulldogs are 2-6 in road games this season entering Wednesday's matchup with the Aggies, along with coming off of a double-digit road loss to Auburn over the weekend. With that in mind, they need to build some momentum in these couple days they have available in order to prepare for a road environment such as College Station this week.
In addition to this, freshman guard Josh Hubbard a cemented himself as an important piece in the Bulldogs' lineup and needs to stay hot these final two games. Hubbard has recorded 20+ points in his last three outings for the Bulldogs.
However, the Bulldogs also need to clean up on offense if they want to stand a chance with some of the tougher competition they will face in March. They shot 39% from the field against Auburn this past weekend while allowing 13 turnovers on the offense.
While the Bulldogs are currently projected as a nine-seed for the NCAA Tournament according to recent analyst projections, they still have some work to do and need to close the season off strong before entering the SEC Tournament, which begins next week.
