Mississippi State Women's Basketball's Slump Continues With Road Loss to Auburn
The struggles for the Mississippi State women’s basketball team continued on Thursday night as the Bulldogs lost their fifth game in a row, this time to the Auburn Tigers 77-60 at Neville Arena.
The Tigers jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead from the get-go and never trailed in the game which included an 11-5 run down the stretch. The closest the Bulldogs came within striking distance of a lead was 7-4 in the 7:58 mark of the first quarter.
Turnovers played a big factor in the game. Mississippi State committed 17 turnovers versus Auburn’s six and the Tigers scored 25 of their total points off turnovers.
Jessika Carter led the Bulldogs in points with 16, Jerkaila Jordan led in rebounds with ten and Lauren Park-Lane led in assists with five. As a whole, the team shot 32-percent from the field, 25-percent from behind the arc, and 78-percent from the free throw line.
Honesty Scott-Grayson led the Tigers in scoring with 32, JaMya Mingo-Young led in rebounds with eight and assists with seven. As a whole, the team shot 43-percent from the field, 38-percent from behind the arc and 45-percent from the free throw line.
The five-game slump capped off a very up-and-down February for the Bulldogs. The team started the month strong with a 17-5 record and added key conference wins against Kentucky, Texas A&M, and Georgia, but have since lost to Florida, Ole Miss, Kentucky, and Alabama.
With this loss, the Bulldogs fall to 20-10 on the year while the Tigers move to 18-10 on the year. Both teams are currently 7-8 in conference play.
