Mississippi State Baseball Reveals Weekend Pitching Rotation Ahead of Series Against Arizona State

Mississippi State announced its pitching rotation before heading into the weekend series.

Mississippi State continues the season with a three-game series this upcoming weekend. The Bulldogs have put two different series in the books to this point in the season -- one three-game series against VMI and another two-game series against ULM.

Earlier this week, the Bulldogs lost to ULM, 5-11, but came back with a 14-3 win Wednesday.

To start off the weekend, Mississippi State has junior Cade Smith pitching on Friday. Last season, he played a total of 14 games for the Bulldogs. Smith finished with a 4-4 record, allowing a total of 61 hits and 37 runs (31 earned) while striking 66 batters, which ranked second-best on the team. Smith started during opening weekend and this marks the second series this season is which the Bulldogs have opened with him.

In Saturday's 5 p.m. game, sophomore Graham Yntema will be the first to pitch. Yntema is a transfer from Lawson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama. Last season, he was named ACCC pitcher of the year and pitched a team-high with 76.2 innings and led the team with eight wins. It will be interesting to see what he will add to the pitching line up.

Sunday's 1 p.m. game will finish out the series and senior Landon Gartman will pitch. This is Gartman's first year playing for State. He previously played for Pearl River Community College and then for Memphis. Over the years, Gartman has posted a number of achievements but in just 2022, he was named the 2022 First Team All-ACC and the 2022 AAC Newcomer Pitcher of the Year.

The Bulldogs will kick off the series this weekend Friday at 4 p.m. at Dudy Noble Field.
