Mississippi State Baseball's David Mershon Earns SEC Honor

One Mississippi State freshman earned conference recognition for his outstanding play in the series win over No. 2-ranked LSU.

Monday afternoon, the Southeastern Conference released its weekly honors and awards. Infielder David Mershon, a huge contributor in the win against No. 2 LSU this past weekend, was named Co-Freshman of the Week.

With his multi-hit performance on Saturday and Sunday, Mershon hit .600 and had three perfect stolen bases, finishing the series with a .714 on-base percentage.

He recorded single-game career highs by scoring three runs, with four hits, two stolen bases. He was 4-for-5 with an RBI and two walks, 2-for-2 on stolen bases.

Prior to Mershon's starting career as a Bulldog, he executed his raw talent all throughout high school being named All-State in 2019, 2021, and 2022 in South Carolina. He guided Eastside HS to a state title in 2019 and 2022 and hit over .400 batting average all four years.

Mershon comes from a family filled with baseball talent, since his father, Brian Mershon, spent 1987 in the Cincinnati Reds organization in 1987 after playing college baseball at Illinois.

Expect the younger Mershon to continue to be a force as MSU returns to action against the North Alabama Lions on Tuesday.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and the broadcast will be carried on SECN+.
