Memphis third baseman Logan Kohler announced recently this month that he will transfer to Mississippi State for 2024 college baseball season.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder  started his college career at Oklahoma before transferring to Memphis, where he spent two years with the Tigers. Coming into Mississippi State, he will be using his final year of eligibility in Starkville as a graduate transfer.

During the 2023 college baseball season, Kohler had a .330 batting average, with 11 home runs and 34 RBI's for the Tigers. He also played against the Bulldogs this past season, where he hit a first-inning homer in Dudy Noble Field. However, the game was canceled after three innings due to weather concerns.

The talented third baseman is a solid replacement for Slate Alford, the Bulldogs' starting third baseman from last season, who transferred to Georgia in June.

Kohler is the fourth offseason addition via the transfer portal for Mississippi State this year. The Bulldogs have also landed transfer commitments from pitchers Nate Lamb (Young Harris College), Gavin Black (Northwest Florida State College ) and catcher Johnny Long III (Pittsburgh).

The Bulldogs have lost five players to the transfer portal after the conclusion of the season. Along with Alford, Mississippi State has lost shortstop Lane Forsythe to Oklahoma State and relief pitcher Graham Yntema to Mercer. Meanwhile, catchers Bryce Hubbard and Ryan Williams, along with first baseman Von Seibert are still in the portal.

In addition to the roster turnover, there have also been changes to the Bulldogs' coaching staff. Head coach Chris Lemonis hired South Carolina's pitching coach for the same role in Starkville, after original pitching coach Scott Foxhall was fired during the season.

The Bulldogs finished last season with a 27-26 overall record, including a 9-21 SEC record and failed to reach the postseason for the second straight year. Only time will tell if the Bulldogs can make it back to the postseason sooner rather than later.
