Three Things To Know About Mississippi State Baseball's Dakota Jordan
Mississippi State baseball season is now in full swing and there's plenty to be excited about as the Bulldogs round out their first series of the season against VMI.
One of many players on the 2023 team to keep an eye on is outfielder Dakota Jordan.
Here's a look at three things to know about the freshman:
1. He was a prospect for the 2022 MLB draft.
Jordan was No. 30 among high school players for the MLB draft last July. He is a well accomplished athlete in many sports but baseball is where Jordan tends to excel. Out of all the draft prospects in that cycle, he was projected at No. 427 in the draft.
He ultimately wasn't drafted, something that some think it is due to his lack of experience behind the plate even though he is an exceptional player. How he build upon his foundation and increases his stock in Starkville will be something to watch.
2. He was name a Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year.
One of Jordan's many accomplishments was winning the 2021-2022 Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year. Last year, his batting average was .524 with 16 home runs and 57 RBI.
Perfect Game ranked Jordan as the state of Mississippi's No. 2 prospect for the 2022 recruiting class. The accomplishments don't end there for Jordan, who went on to break his schools multi-home run game last season. Having him as a developing player in fold with a high ceiling is nothing short of exciting for MSU.
3. He was originally committed to Mississippi State as a two-sport athlete.
Jordan attended Jackson Academy in Jackson, Mississippi and did well in more than just baseball.
During his time there, he was a standout football and baseball player. He played wide receiver for his school's football team and set a school record with 877 receiving yards this past football season. Although Jordan is a successful dual-sport athlete, he tends to favor baseball.
