Mississippi State Baseball Reveals Pitching Rotation Against Ole Miss In The Upcoming Weekend Series

Mississippi State announced its pitching rotation before heading into the weekend series.

Mississippi State baseball headed into Super Bulldog Weekend coming off its first SEC series win against Alabama last weekend. The Bulldogs also took a 7-3 win earlier this week at UAB, followed by a 3-2 loss to the Rebels to open up the action.

The Bulldogs announced their pitching rotation on Friday for the contests against the Ole Miss Rebels that will have some major postseason implications.

To start off the weekend, Mississippi State has junior Cade Smith pitching on Friday. So far this season Smith has pitched in four games and the only game lost within those four games was against Arizona State. Last season, he finished with a 4-4 record, allowing 61 hits, and 37 runs while striking out 66 batters, which was second on the team. This will be Smith's fifth appearance on the mound for a pretty big weekend in store for the Bulldogs.

In Saturday's afternoon game, senior Landon Gartman will start on the mound. This is Gartman's first season playing for State, he was previously at Memphis and before that Pearl River Community College.

Gartman has appeared in eight games this season and has a season-high of eight strikeouts in the opening series against VMI. Over the years, Gartman has received many accomplishments but his most recent one was 2022 ACC Newcomer Pitcher of The Year.

To end the weekend, Mississippi State has its freshman ambidextrous pitcher Jurrangelo Cijintje starting Sunday at 1 p.m. Cijintje has pitched in eight different games this season and with those games he has pitched, he has earned an ERA of 5.76. He earned nine strikeouts a season-high against South Carolina.

This will not be a weekend to miss out on. The series continues on Saturday afternoon at Dudy Noble Field.
