Five Things To Know About Mississippi State Baseball Recruit Jack Frankel

What to know about Mississippi State's top recruit for the Class of 2024.

Mississippi State baseball has had plenty of success on the recruiting trail over recent years, and one of the Bulldogs' latest and most highly-touted hits is Class of 2024 prospect Jack Frankel out of John Paul II High School in Plano, Texas.

Here's a look at five things to know about the Bulldogs' top recruit:

1. Frankel's top throwing speed as a freshman was 94 miles per hour.

During the 2022 season, Frankel was out due to a non-pitching injury, which fortunately for him was his non-throwing arm. He hasn't failed to garner attention despite that though, and that comes down to his sheer level of talent and accomplishments on the baseball field.

As a freshman, he topped out at 94 miles per hour to go with an 80 miles per hour breaking ball and low 80's change up and is a strike thrower. Over the course of 84 career innings, he has only let 22 hitters walk. Frankel's speed and velocity behind the ball is the most attractive skill that all coaches look for.

2. One of the top Texas Prospects for the 2024 class.

Looking at the Class of 2024, Frankel lands at No. 2 in the state of Texas in the rankings. He also ranks at No. 20 nationally, though his school doesn't make the top-15 teams in the region.

3. Frankel is a standout behind the mound.

Frankel is consistent in his fastball and has all the traits coaches want to see in a young arm from a power fastball to advanced secondaries and refined command. Within his class, his depth and talent on the mound are what sets him apart. Frankel shows a lot of confidence on the mound and the way he handles himself on the mound is what makes him stand out from everyone else.

4. A place in the top 50 high school prospects for the 2024 MLB draft.

Frankel sits at No. 42 in the rankings of high school prospects for the 2024 MLB draft. The way his fastball is hitting near the mid 90s and his sharp slider is hitting in the low 80s with late diving life is what puts him in such a high position for the draft. Frankel is very skilled and has a mix of four pitches he does well. He shows potential in his changeups, even if they have been hit-or-miss in his outings -- but he has shown some feel for turning them over that generates shape in-game.

5. His most recent award is the 2023 Perfect Game Preseason Underclassmen All-American Teams.

Over the course of his career, Frankel has earned some 41 awards. His most recent honor to receive is to be recognized under the 2023 Perfect Game Preseason Underclassmen All-American Team. Frankel is a well-polished right-hand pitcher who continues to work on his mechanics on the mound.

He should be expected to be a great asset for the future of MSU baseball, and many are looking forward to seeing him on the mound as a Bulldog.
