Preview: Mississippi State Baseball Faces Ole Miss in Important Series on Super Bulldog Weekend
Mississippi State baseball head coach Chris Lemonis earned his 300th career victory in last week's series at Alabama. Many fans were thrilled about the Bulldogs earning their first SEC series victory of the season, while others lamented the fact that it took so long.
Heading into the remainder of the schedule, the pressure is building on Lemonis and the coaching staff after coming off a national championship win with back-to-back disappointing seasons.
Super Bulldog weekend, which features MSU's rivalry meeting with Ole Miss, is next up. In addition to this, legendary coach Ron Polk will have his statue unveiled prior to Friday's opener. The football team will also have its spring game.
This series is huge for the Bulldogs, because in-state enemy aside, the Rebels were the last team to win a national championship and this trio of contests will have significant implications on what the postseason looks like for the team.
One thing of note heading into this one is that MSU is No. 30 in the RPI whereas Ole Miss barely made the top 50. This weekend, State has the advantage when it comes to pitching.
After this weekend the schedule will take the Bulldogs to face No. 1 LSU, No. 8 Tennessee and then a home series against No. 5 Arkansas.
The series opener against Ole Miss will be held at Dudy Noble on Friday, April 14th at 6 p.m. CT. Big crowds are expected to come out and watch as the team looks for their seventh win in the rivalry. MSU has not lost a series to Ole Miss since 2015.
