Just A Bulldog Minute: Mississippi State Men’s Basketball Pushing For Three In A Row
It was a difficult ride back to Starkville after the Bulldogs struggled to match the offensive output of No. 15 Alabama, but State has rattled off two victories since then.
Even without arguably their best on-ball defender in D.J. Jefferies, who went down with a knee injury against the Crimson Tide, Mississippi State has held its own against Georgia and Missouri. These wins might not be quad-one victories but they are great wins to bounce back after a difficult night in Tuscaloosa.
One of the key players that has stepped up has been Cameron Matthews who has been a defensive game-changer for the Bulldogs.
Starting against Georgia, he had a plus-minus of 28 with nine points and made all of his free throws which had been a struggle during the season. He added four blocks, three steals, and an efficient 11 rebounds. On the road in Missouri, he scored nine points again, had a plus-minus of 26, and mustered up seven steals, a career-best.
Tolu Smith III and Josh Hubbard have also been impressive in these past two games as well. Smith is flying around the court like never before while Hubbard, who is nursing an ankle injury, is still as fearless as ever from behind the arch.
After a well-needed week off, Mississippi State will face Arkansas (12-11, SEC 3-7) on Saturday, Feb 17 at 1 p.m. central on ESPNU.
