It's late December and we're still more than two months away from really starting to get into the nuts and bolts of the NCAA Tournament brackets, the seedings, and how this will all fall, but ...

The Mississippi State women's team might be projected to be a bit too low.

The latest ESPN Women's Bracketology by Charlie Creme was released on Tuesday, and he currently has the Bulldogs as an 8 seed - Ole Miss is a 7, by the way - in the Birmingham region facing Richmond.

If this really works out this way, the winner would likely ply a loaded Notre Dame team that currently projects to be a 1 seed.

Mississippi State is currently 10-1, but it isn't receiving a whole lot of respect from the rankings with just one vote in the latest AP Poll and 18 - making it 30th - in the Coaches Poll.

However, the real rankings that have a bit more weight are the NET Rankings from the NCAA, and they have the Bulldogs 21st overall - and that's without getting into the Quad system yet.

The lone loss to Georgia Tech a few weeks ago in the ACC-SEC Challenge will start to look better and better - it was a close 78-75 fight, and now the Yellow Jackets are 17th in the AP, 20th in the Coaches, and 16th in the NCAA NET.

Up next is a date with a 3-5 ULM team from the Sun Belt on a five-game losing streak, followed by dates with Maryland Eastern Shore and South Carolina State before diving into SEC play in 2025.

Assume Mississippi State is 13-1 and projected to be around at least a 7-seed - and probably a 6 - by the time if faces Kentucky on January 2nd in the conference opener.
