Mississippi State Head Basketball Coach Chris Jans Receives Contract Extension

The future is bright for Mississippi State basketball under head coach Chris Jans.

Mississippi State men's basketball is headed in the right direction under head coach Chris Jans, as was reflected by the program extending his contract this week.

Athletic director Zac Selmon obviously felt is was very important to keep Jans and have him lead the Bulldogs to more victories when he said:

"Chris Jans is an elite coach who has made a major impact on Mississippi State Men's Basketball in short time. . ."

After the successful season for MSU men's basketball, it makes sense for a coach such as Chris Jans to receive a contract extension, giving him a clear future in Starkville.

He brought the team to 21 victories and an NCAA Tournament appearance, finishing the season with a .742 winning percentage.

"He and his staff have elevated our program on and off the court, through a culture of accountability, student-athlete development, toughness, hard work and excellence. I look forward to continuing to work with Chris as we elevate our men's basketball program to greater heights," said Selmon.

The four year contract will start Jans on a base of $3.2 million for the 2023-24 season and continue until the 2026-27 season.

Jans has shown what talent and determination the Bulldogs have to offer.

"We are grateful for Dr. Mark Keenum and Director of Athletics Zac Selmon for the belief in our vision for Mississippi State Men's Basketball," said Jans. "This will also allow our tremendous staff to be rewarded for their expertise and hard work. Sheri and I have settled into Starkville and continue to be impressed with all the people we have met and especially our loyal fan base. We are already looking forward to next season in the new and improved Humphrey Coliseum."

Since Jans did so well during his first season at Mississippi State, fans are sure to be looking forward to how the the team will perform next season. Back in March of 2022, Jans made statements to the press about his intentions with the team:

"I just want to make sure everyone knows, I'm thrilled to be head coach at Mississippi State, it means the world to me. I'm going to handle it with care. Im going to work tirelessly at my job to ensure that all of you are are proud of this program."

A statement like that puts expectations on a coach's performance and it's safe to say that Jans has kept his promise and continues to strive for a positive future, not just for his career but for the whole team.
