Mississippi State Guard Josh Hubbard Earns Fourth Freshman Of The Week Honor

Mississippi State freshman guard Josh Hubbard was awarded SEC Freshman of the Week, his fourth this season.

Mississippi State freshman guard Josh Hubbard continues to pick up honors from across the conference this season.

Hubbard was named as the SEC Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday, marking his fourth such honor of the season. He joins Jamont Gordon as the only Bulldogs to earn Freshman of the Week four times in a season.

After coming off the bench to start the season, Hubbard has been in the Bulldogs' starting lineup for the past five games, averaging 15.0 points per game this season, which ranks second on the team behind forward Tolu Smith (16.1 PPG).

Against Arkansas, Hubbard recorded 19 points, along with three rebounds and three assists apiece in the 71-67 victory. He played a big part in helping lead the Bulldogs to victory, shooting a go-ahead three pointer to put the team ahead in the final minute of the game. He is currently shooting 38.3% from the three point line, which currently ranks third on the team.

So far this season, he has recorded 21 games in double figures, and has put up over 20+ points in six games this season, which ranks as the best amount freshman in the SEC this season.

Hubbard is everything Bulldogs coach Chris Jans and his squad wanted him to be coming into his freshman year, and they will return to action on Wednesday, when they host in-state rival Ole Miss in Humphrey Coliseum at 8 p.m. CT.
