Mississippi State Basketball Team Brings Home 69-61 Win Against Ole Miss Rebels

The Mississippi State Bulldogs asserted their dominance in an overtime win against the Rebels.

The Mississippi State men’s basketball team battled the rival Ole Miss Rebels and came out on top during overtime with a 69-61 win in Oxford on Saturday.

The Bulldogs came out hot with one thing on their mind -- winning. MSU was the first to put points up on the board as D.J. Jeffries made a layup less than 30 seconds into the game.

MSU was able to hold onto the lead until the very end of the first when the Ole Miss Rebels slowly crept up to leave the Bulldogs trailing by one point.

The Bulldogs and the Rebels continued to play tug-of-war with the score during the second half. Both teams refused to let off the throttle, with neither MSU nor Ole Miss letting themselves trail by more than three points.

With less than a minute left in the game, the Rebels held onto the lead, 56-54. However, the Bulldogs kicked it into gear in the last 30 seconds to tie up the game. Tolu Smith made a layup to secure the score 56-56 and push the game into overtime.

Once in overtime, the Bulldogs insisted on finishing what they started.

The MSU defense held down the court by not allowing the Rebels to get any points on the board in the last three minutes of the game. Deshawn Davis dominated the overtime plays by putting up six points in the frame.

As time trickled down, MSU had the Rebels right where they wanted them. The Mississippi State Bulldogs asserted their dominance on the court and in the state of Mississippi. MSU brought home the win, 69-61.

The Bulldogs now hold an 18-9 overall record and 6-8 in the SEC. Next, Mississippi State will head on the road to take on the Missouri Tigers on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
