Mississippi State's Men's Basketball Team Secures 64-53 Win Over Louisiana State

Mississippi State men's basketball continues to persevere, now riding a four-game winning streak.

The Mississippi State men's basketball team picked up an exciting win against Louisiana State University on Wednesday night at the Humphrey Coliseum.

The Bulldogs came out hot, putting up seven points within the first two minutes. However, the fire began to fade as the LSU Tigers fought a great battle to keep the score in their favor.

As the first half came to a close, Will Mcnair Jr. and Shawn Jones Jr. were able to succeed with a free throw and a layup to push the Bulldogs just over the edge.

The score going into the second half was 25-22, but it was anyone's game at that point. MSU's offense began to pick up their feet in the final quarters of action, channeling the energy radiating in the Hump.

The Bulldogs put up 39 points with a 62.5 field goal percentage in the second. Even with an uneasy start, MSU's offense and defense locked in to secure the win, 64-53. Following the game, head coach Chris Jans discussed his team's perseverance despite their struggles.

"I mean, if you've got a really good basketball team, it's going to happen," Jans said. "It's nice to see them stay locked in and certainly something we preach all the time, but especially when the ball isn't going through the hole."

D.J. Jeffries led the Bulldogs in scoring, finishing out the evening with 18 points and seven rebounds. Shakeel Moore posted 13 points and Tolu Smith had 10 points with seven rebounds.

MSU was 26-50 on field goals (52%) and 6-16 from the arc. The team shot 65% on field goals in the second half effort on the victory.

The victory for MSU was able to push the Bulldogs to a 16-8 overall record with a hopeful four-game win streak as they look to keep the momentum up. Next, the Bulldogs will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks this Saturday at 5 p.m.
